ড. কাযী হিউস্টন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে কেমিক্যাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং-এ বি.এসসি. ডিগ্রি লাভ করেন, যার পরে তিনি মদীনার ইসলামিক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ছাত্র হিসেবে ভর্তি হন। আরবিতে ডিপ্লোমা শেষ করার পর, তিনি হাদিস ও ইসলামিক সায়েন্সেস কলেজ থেকে বি.এ. এবং দাওয়াহ কলেজ থেকে ইসলামিক থিওলজি-তে এম.এ. ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। এরপর তিনি ইয়েল ইউনিভার্সিটি থেকে এম.এ., এমফিল এবং পিএইচ.ডি. সম্পন্ন করেন। তাঁর ডক্টরাল থিসিসের বিষয় ছিল 'ইবনে তাইমিয়ার লেখায় যুক্তি ও ওহির সমন্বয়' ('Reconciling Reason and Revelation in the Writings of Ibn Taymiyya')।
